Last Mile Semiconductor GmbH, a Dresden-based deep-tech startup, is developing the next generation of energy-efficient wireless connectivity solutions based on the new DECT NR+ standard. As a pioneer in the field of ultra-low-power RFICs and SoCs, we are shaping the future of IoT, Industry 4.0, and Massive Machine-Type Communication (mMTC). Our chips are based on modern CMOS and FD-SOI technologies and are used worldwide for scalable, robust, and cost-effective applications. In this key role, you will assume overall responsibility for complex development projects at the interface between ASICs, low-level software, embedded systems, PCBs, and higher-level software layers.

Your responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the planning, management, and implementation of complex development projects in the semiconductor industry
  • Managing the overall delivery of ASICs, low-level software, firmware, embedded software, and relevant hardware and system components
  • Coordinating interfaces with PCB design, system integration, and—where necessary—higher-level software layers
  • Establishing, maintaining, and monitoring project plans, budgets, milestones, dependencies, and deliverables
  • Responsibility for schedule, resource, and cost management, as well as for ongoing project controlling
  • Managing collaboration with external service providers, development partners, and suppliers
  • Defining, coordinating, and tracking scopes of work, interfaces, and responsibilities
  • Leading and coordinating interdisciplinary project teams without formal disciplinary authority
  • Negotiating project scopes, delivery dates, priorities, and commercial terms with external partners
  • Identifying, assessing, and actively managing technical, organizational, and commercial project risks
  • Resolving conflicting objectives and escalating critical issues with clear recommendations for action
  • Preparing management decisions and providing regular reports to executive management and relevant stakeholders
  • Ensuring efficient, quality-oriented, and on-time project implementation through to tape-out
  • Monitoring progress, quality, resources, and critical paths across all involved development areas
  • Ensuring transparent project documentation and the further development of scalable project management, process, and reporting structures within a growing deep-tech company

Your Profile:

  • A successfully completed degree in computer science (with solid experience in embedded, firmware, or hardware-related software development), industrial engineering, electrical engineering, business administration, microelectronics, or a comparable field of study
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in managing complex development projects
  • Several years of experience independently planning and managing interdisciplinary projects with a high degree of technical complexity
  • Proven experience in project controlling, resource management, and budget responsibility
  • Experience with schedule, cost, and dependency management in development projects
  • Experience managing external service providers, development partners, or suppliers
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management and communication with internal and external partners
  • Confidence in negotiating project scope, priorities, delivery dates, and commercial terms
  • A structured, analytical, and solution-oriented approach to work
  • High degree of personal responsibility, decision-making ability, and commitment
  • Very good written and spoken English, at least at the C1 level
  • Willingness to work regularly at our location in Dresden

Nice to Have

    • Experience in the semiconductor industry, microelectronics, or chip development
    • Practical knowledge of typical firmware, embedded software, or hardware-related development projects
    • Experience with ASIC, SoC, or RFIC development processes through to tape-out
    • Understanding of the interfaces between chips, PCBs, firmware, embedded software, and higher-level software layers
    • Experience coordinating bring-up, integration, or verification phases
    • Certification in project management, such as PMP, PRINCE2, or IPMA
    • Familiarity with contractual and commercial aspects of the semiconductor industry, such as NRE costs, licensing models, milestone payments, or IP licensing agreements
    • Experience with project management and collaboration tools such as MS Project, Jira, Confluence, or Smartsheet
    • Knowledge of the DECT-NR+ standard or comparable wireless and IoT technologies
    • Knowledge of German
